While our kids come down from the Halloween sugar high, us adults are in need of a treat that is sweet yet all grown up. Look no further than NYC’s own chocolate business up in the Bronx: Sol Cacao. A family affair of three brothers: Dominic, Nicholas, and Daniel Maloney. Sol Cacao is a bean-to-chocolate company that crafts rich, dark bars that are a treat to the mouth and doesn’t break the bank. Plus they are a small Black owned business which I love supporting when the opportunity arises!
Sol Cacao has four varieties of chocolate currently (all their flavors are vegan): 70% Ecuador Chocolate, 72% Madagascar Chocolate, 70% Colombia Chocolate, and 70% Peru Chocolate. Each bar is crafted with the cacao bean from the respective region and leans a diverse flavor notes in every bar.
70% Peru Chocolate has notes of: Honeydew, toffee, and hints of fruits
70% Ecuador Chocolate has notes of: Almond, walnuts, and butter
72% Madagascar Chocolate has notes of: Raisins, Red plum, and red wine notes
70% Colombia Chocolate has notes of: earthiness, nuttiness, and savory notes
My personal favorite is the Madagascar Chocolate. It is the ultimate pick-me-up after a long day with a glass of red non-alcoholic wine and aged cheddar. I have a few squares and feel like absolute royalty after eating Sol Cacao.
Each bar is a feast for the eyes with gorgeous watercolors of natural scenes, like birds and trees, on the packaging. I saved the packaging to frame in my home around my entryway. Sol Cacao is truly a work of art.
