3 Oracle Card Decks For Everyday Magic

Oracle cards are tarot’s humble sister. Both are tools for self-discovery and reflection, but there are some key differences.

Tarot has stricter guidelines: a deck typically has 78 cards, and the meaning of each card generally stays the same from deck to deck. On the other hand, with oracle cards, it’s up to the author how they want to structure the deck and the messages in them. Decks can have anywhere from 30 to 60 cards and usually come with a guidebook to explain the theme, individual cards, and different spreads. You can find oracle decks that suit your personality and interests, like self-love, plants, or astrology, like in the decks below.

There’s no wrong or right way to use an oracle deck, and, as a magick beginner, I love that flexibility. You can use them to supplement tarot readings, or just pull an oracle card on its own for a dose of inspiration or contemplation.

Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, there’s no denying that oracle cards are fun. Here are 3 decks that are great for novices and pros alike.

The Herbal Astrology Pocket Oracle ($14.99)

This deck will help you channel the wonders of nature and the world around you. Each beautifully illustrated card depicts one of 55 plant allies. The guidebook goes more into depth about the plant’s historical meanings, traditional medicinal uses, astrological rulers, and how it can serve as a form of guidance in the present day. For example, rose, ruled by Venus and the moon, invites love and affection. Reishi, ruled by Jupiter and the sun, calls for silence and rest.

These cards are pocket-sized, making them perfect for on-the-go guidance. They’re also easier to shuffle if you have smaller hands (like I do!).

Self Source-ery Oracle ($24.99)

We could all use some more self-love. This 42-card deck inspires you to step into your divine feminine power and take responsibility for your needs. Each boldly-colored card has a transmission (a channeled message) in one of three categories: come to your senses, trust your instincts, and remember your magic. It also contains an affirmation and suggested actions to access, understand, and reflect on the relationship with your inner self. For instance, the Tend The Terrain card asks us to analyze what nourishes and what depletes our energy.

Cosmic Magic Oracle ($19.99)

If you’re into astrology, this deck is a great introduction to oracle using terms and symbols you’re already familiar with. The 44 cards depict zodiac signs, planets and luminaries, phases of the moon, and other astrological aspects to help you connect with yourself and your intuition. Each card has an explanation, three questions to reflect on or journal about, an affirmation, and a self-care practice. Pulling the Virgo card suggests clearing the energy in your space, whereas the New Moon card encourages intentionality.
