On July 5th, I became engaged to the love of my life, Martin. It was an extraordinary day full of surprises, love, and childlike joy.
In the following months, we have enjoyed celebrating this milestone with our closest friends and family.
Back in August, we went to Saratoga to see Martin’s parents, and we took the opportunity to make a weekend trip out of it.

The coolest part? We brought my Aspen camera from FOTOFOTO along for the ride.
Brooklyn’s FOTOFOTO is changing the disposable camera game. First of all, it’s made from entirely recycled materials. And it’s not actually disposable! The camera arrives at your door with a roll of film installed, a nylon wrist strap that makes it easy to carry, and a return mailer and prepaid shipping label. This means that after taking all your desired shots, you ship it back using the envelope provided, and the camera is given a new life for the next person. The camera doesn’t get thrown away, and you can select whether you want to receive your photos in the form of physical prints, digital scans, or both. I selected both! And let me tell you, the sweet anticipation of wondering what the photos would look like made our trip all the more magical.
The photos below are the FOTOFOTO digital scans from our Upstate New York trip.
The first stop on our mini-vacation was a Megabus to Saratoga, where we stayed in a charming one-bedroom guest suite for the weekend.

We then rented a car so Martin could show me the place where he spent his formative years, North River, and the neighboring town, North Creek.
One of the highlights of North Creek was the Garnet Mine. Utterly beautiful, and since Martin used to work there as a tour guide in his teen years, he took me for a real behind-the-scenes view. I even brought pieces of garnet home with me to put on display.
We enjoyed hiking, and yes, I participated, even in a dress. I even held a baby frog!
Then, we made our way to North Creek’s Revolution Rail, a repurposed elevated railroad complete with railbikes so you can peddle your way on a variety of scenic trails. Martin and I did the Ride to Reparius, 14 miles of stunning sights along the Hudson River.
After a wholesome celebratory dinner with Martin’s parents, we reserved the following day to hit up the Saratoga racetrack.
To dull the sting of losing every single one of our horse race bets, we bought arguably the best ice cream in Saratoga, from none other than Dairy Haus.
And before we headed home, Martin gave this native New Yorker a thorough driving lesson in a parking lot.
My FOTOFOTO camera took what was already bound to be a lovely trip to another level. It was effortless to ship my camera back after I had taken all my pictures, and so special to come home and view both the digital files I ordered, as well as the physical prints which arrived in no time via the mail. Martin and I have beautiful memories to show for it all, some of which are magnetized to our fridge as I write.
