End of Summer Skincare

Summer isn’t truly over yet, if we want to get technical. Sadly, though, frequent beach and pool trips are coming to a close, which means I’m making slight tweaks to my skincare after getting a little bit too much sun. Here are some current favorites in my rotation.

The Farmacy Honey Vanilla Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm has become an everyday staple as my first cleanse. In the summer months, I double cleansed every day to make sure all the layers of sunscreen were off my skin before bedtime, and I’m continuing that habit now. The Farmacy balm is my favorite that I’ve tried (aside from my old favorite, Clinique’s Take the Day Off), and it smells amazing. It transforms once warmed by the skin, becoming slippery and dissolving all makeup, oil, dirt, and sunscreen, but leaves no oily residue at all. This Honey Vanilla version is limited edition and will be available in Farmacy’s holiday You’re The Cleansing Balm Kit, available at Sephora online starting 9/6 and in-store 9/20.

The second cleanse I’ve been enjoying is the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser, which gently pulls out impurities while leaving skin feeling hydrated. This is a super-soft, creamy facial cleanser that doesn’t lather up very much, which I love. It’s the perfect second cleanse (or sole morning cleanse), as it’s not stripping but will leave your skin feeling clean and bright. Some ingredients highlights are green clay, bentonite, and white kaolin.

To fully recover from the dehydration that salty ocean water and chlorinated pools cause for my skin, I’ve started regularly slathering on Fenty’s Cookies N Clean Whipped Clay Pore Detox Face Mask. I’ll miss lying on the sand all day – but I won’t miss how crusty my face feels afterward. This mask gently takes care of all that dead skin with non-drying encapsulated charcoal that physically exfoliates, and salicylic acid that does so chemically. This leaves my highly sensitive skin feeling soft and glowing, with no irritation at all. It’s like an at-home facial.

The last little addition I’m working into my post-summer skincare routine is another from Sunday Riley: their Luna Sleeping Night Oil with retinol and blue tansy. Hesitant to apply retinol during the summer when I knew I’d likely be in the sun the next day, I’m finally able to apply this every few nights with no qualms. I don’t think I’ve ever tried a retinol product that didn’t irritate my skin – until I found Luna. This deep blue serum which sinks into skin upon contact even has a calming effect on my face, and I wake up with a lovely glow in the morning. I feel like I’m undoing any sun damage I may have gotten while enjoying myself too much this summer.
