When the weather begins to cool, our complexions can begin to dull. Lower temperatures might lead to dryer skin, which doesn’t do our faces any favors. One of my favorite skincare ingredients to combat this? Vitamin C.
Vitamin C, when used in skincare, has the potential to lighten dark spots, smooth wrinkles, boost collagen, diminish scars, and much more. It’s an antioxidant that helps prevent sun damage, and many people report brighter complexions after use. Everyone can benefit from adding some into the routine, most commonly in the morning, before moisturizer, in the form of a serum. Here are my top 3 (and a few bonus) recommendations.
Drunk Elephant’s new launch C-Luma Hydrabright Serum contains 9% sodium ascorbyl phosphate and 1% ascorbyl glucoside, as well as a triple antioxidant brightening complex. It’s extremely hydrating, and can be used any time of day. After gently patting this light serum into my face, my skin feels calm and moisturized. The brand has another Vitamin C serum available, but I tend to gravitate towards this option for my sensitive skin.
Another one I’ve been enjoying is Skinceuticals’ Phloretin CF, with pure Vitamin C, phloretin (an antioxidant that improves discoloration), and ferulic acid (another antixodant, which neutralizes free radicals). This one is more watery and comes in a dropper. It’s specifically formulated for fine lines and discoloration, and is designed for use in the morning. It sinks in quickly due to its essence-like texture, accelerating skin’s radiance in the process.
Finally, Sunday Riley’s C.E.O. Glow is an excellent option for those with normal to dry skin. A luxurious Vitamin C and turmeric facial oil, this one can be used any time of day, though I love using it in the morning. This also contains ginger, red raspberry, evening primrose, and jojoba oil, and is kind of like the equivalent of drinking a super smoothie, but for your face. Once this sinks in, it leaves the most amazing glow–hence the name.
Sunday Riley are experts when it comes to Vitamin C. I also love their C.E.O. Serum, a 15% Vitamin C concoction that is comparable to the Drunk Elephant mentioned above; C.E.O. Afterglow, a Vitamin C gel cream; and the C.E.O. Rich Hydration Cream. There’s an option for everyone, no matter the skin type.
